Reflections On A Decade of Service Excellence

20 Jan 2022

This week was a major milestone in HGS history as we celebrated our 10th anniversary of service excellence. In the days leading to this milestone, I reflected on the journey we’ve had to get to this point. The last 10 years have certainly been a long road with some of the highest highs and lowest lows. I thought about all the wonderful people I’ve met in this journey, humbled that they were part of it. Equally humbling was learning about HGS’s early years before I joined in 2015. Most of all, I thought about every single person who walked into HGS’s doors everyday as part of our offshore teams. Whether they were with HGS from the beginning or joined just last year, they’ve played an integral part in who we are today.  I’d like to take a quick look back at the last ten years and what our future holds.

A Brief HGS Timeline

Something not many know about HGS’s early years is it didn’t start on its own in 2012. In fact, HGS actually began in 2011 as a single account brought in by our Founder, Rob Hynes. Rob and his team set up shop in a shared office space out of Makati. He quickly determined that working independently was the right approach in providing clients the service excellence that he envisioned. That meant finding a place that was very much uniquely “HGS.” With that, HGS was officially born in January 2012. And they certainly hit the ground running in those early days! In a few short years, that small office space was quickly outgrown by an ever expanding startup. It wasn’t long before we moved into what many long-time HGS staffers call the company’s first true home: Robinsons Summit Center (or RSC as it’s commonly known).

Some scenes from our very first Christmas party in 2013.

When I joined HGS in 2015, I briefly discussed some of my experiences as the company’s then CEO. Reading back, it’s crazy to think how much things would change in a short time! In 2016, we expanded to Twenty-Four Seven McKinley and that’s when we felt the gears really starting to turn. By 2017 – in just our fifth year of operations – we had our third location up and running in the adjacent Twenty-Five Seven McKinley office. In that time, we saw ourselves transition into a truly global provider committed to service excellence for clients all over the world. The US market in particular, opened up for HGS in 2019. And though no one could have predicted the extent of the current global pandemic, the last two years have been a good indicator of where we are – no longer a startup but as a thriving, mature business.

The future of our service excellence

We’ve certainly come a long way since that small shared office space in Makati. From those humble origins, HGS is now home to over 1500 staff spread across four locations around the Philippines. Some of whom have been with us since the very beginning and continue to believe in our mission and vision. The last ten years have been an incredible ride full of new experiences, opportunities and wonderful memories. Of course, it hasn’t been an easy journey either. We’ve had our fair share of roadblocks and challenges, but these are moments I absolutely would not trade for anything in the world. They’ve shaped not only me but what HGS’s service excellence is all about. We would not have made it this far without these experiences under our belt. I for one am very excited to see where the next decade will take us together.
